Not so with the Sony KV-27FV15, which maintains its focus and sharpness from corner to corner due to the advanced Trinitron WEGA flat tube. The tube minimizes glare from virtually any angle, while also employing a magnetic quadra pole to reduce beam spot distortion and a three-line digital comb filter to lessen dot crawl and blurred edges between colors. The resulting video images are sharp and colorful, whether broadcast through digital cable, a satellite box, a DVD player, a game console, or a good old-fashioned VCR. Other picture enhancements derive from the velocity scan modulation feature, which creates refined edges around the objects on the screen, and the combination of Dynamic Focus and Dynamic Picture circuitry.

People who are easily conflicted over which program to watch will enjoy the dual-tuner picture-in-picture, which lets viewers watch more than one channel at a time (or even freeze one program while watching another). The TV also adjusts the screen's color temperature based on the light sources in a room, giving users the best picture for direct sunlight, artificial lighting, or no lighting at all. Other popular features include custom channel labeling, an 181-channel express tuning system, SpeedSurf rapid channel scanning, the selection of up to five channels as favorites, a sleep timer, and a multilingual onscreen menu. Parents can rest easy with the ratings monitor provided by the V-chip parental control, while hearing-impaired folks will appreciate the closed captioning feature.

The TV also broadcasts robust audio through the two 15-watt side speakers, MTS decoder with DBX noise reduction, and the TruSurround SRS 3D audio effect. Users can also adjust the treble, bass, and balance of the audio output while shifting between mono, stereo, and simulated surround modes, or even an alternate audio broadcast of the same program (when available). The device also offers the volume-stabilizing aptitude of Steady Sound.
